Activated Carbon Supplier in Qatar
Medaad Adsorption Chemicals, part of the SorbiTech™ Group, supplies industrial activated carbon across Qatar. We serve gas and LNG plants at Ras Laffan, petrochemical, fertiliser and steel plants at Mesaieed and Umm Said, oilfield operations at Dukhan, and the water treatment and desalination facilities that supply Doha, Al Khor, Al Wakrah and Lusail.
Our activated carbon is made from coconut shell, coal and wood, and is available in granular (GAC), powder (PAC), pellet, acid washed and impregnated grades. Every consignment comes with a technical datasheet and a certificate of analysis, so the material can be checked against your specification before it goes into the bed.
Activated Carbon Applications in Qatar
Qatar’s industry runs on natural gas, petrochemicals and desalinated water. Each one asks something different from the carbon, so here is where it is used and what it does.
| Sector in Qatar | What the carbon does |
| Natural Gas, LNG and GTL | Takes out mercury and sulphur compounds and cleans amine solutions in the gas and liquefaction trains at Ras Laffan, protecting downstream equipment. |
| Desalination and Water Treatment | Removes chlorine before it reaches reverse osmosis membranes, and strips taste, odour and organics from drinking and process water. Qatar depends almost entirely on desalinated water. |
| Petrochemicals, Fertiliser and Steel | Removes colour, recovers solvents and cleans up products at the plants in Mesaieed and Umm Said. |
| Air and Gas Purification | Captures VOCs, controls odour and cleans emissions from process vents and industrial ventilation. |
| Food and Beverage Processing | Takes colour out of syrups and edible oils and removes off flavours on bottling and processing lines. |
Carbon is also used for solvent recovery, gas sweetening and respirator filters. If your duty is not listed, send us the contaminant and operating conditions and our engineers will identify a suitable grade.
Activated Carbon Grades Supplied in Qatar
The shape and size of the carbon decide how fast it works and how much pressure it costs to push your stream through it. We match the grade to the duty instead of offering one general product.
| Grade | Where it is used |
| Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) | The general workhorse for fixed beds treating water or gas. Good capacity with a reasonable pressure drop. Supplied in 8×30, 12×40 and other mesh sizes. |
| Pellet (Extruded) Activated Carbon | Best for gas and vapour duties. The uniform shape keeps pressure drop low and the pellets stand up well to handling. |
| Powder Activated Carbon (PAC) | Very fine, so it acts fast. Used where carbon is dosed straight into the stream, usually in water treatment and batch processes. |
| Acid Washed Activated Carbon | Washed to bring ash and soluble content down. Chosen for food, beverage and high purity streams where the carbon must not add anything back. |
| Impregnated Activated Carbon | Treated with a chemical so it targets one contaminant, such as hydrogen sulphide, mercury or ammonia, that plain carbon holds poorly. |
Raw materials
The base material sets the pore structure, and that decides which molecules the carbon holds best.
| Raw material | What it suits |
| Coconut shell | Mostly small pores and a hard grain. Suits small molecules, drinking water polishing, gas duties and gold recovery. |
| Coal based | A wide mix of pore sizes. A dependable all rounder for wastewater, process water and many gas applications. |
| Wood based | Mostly larger pores. Suits big colour molecules, so it is used for decolourising sugars, syrups and edible oils. |
Activated Carbon Specifications
Activated carbon’s performance relies on its specifications, such as surface area, pore structure, and chemical composition. However, these ensure it meets specific needs in various applications like water purification and environmental remediation. More Info >>

Why Choose Medaad for Activated Carbon in Qatar
Plants in Qatar work to fixed shutdown windows and approved specifications. What matters is not just the specification on paper, but getting the same quality in every consignment. Each of ours is documented with a certificate of analysis giving iodine number, ash, moisture and particle size, so your team can check the material on arrival instead of finding a problem once the bed is loaded.
Behind Medaad is the SorbiTech™ Group, which develops and supplies industrial adsorbent and separation technologies worldwide. That means you get the full range of adsorbents from one source, plus engineers who will help you choose the grade, size the bed, estimate service life and plan reactivation. We apply the same specification and documentation standard to every consignment, in Qatar and in every other market we serve, whether it is supplied through Medaad or as SorbiTech activated carbon in Qatar.
